Market Street is a critical corridor for San Francisco’s downtown. It’s the spine of our transit network, San Francisco’s grand boulevard, and a street where hundreds of thousands of people walk, bike, and take Muni every day.

Since 2020, private cars have been prohibited from most of Market Street, the result of a decade-plus long community process. Since then Market is safer, faster, and more reliable for everyone who travels downtown.

Now, Mayor Lurie wants to reverse that progress by putting cars back on our city’s main street.

We are an alliance of community groups and businesses who are invested in ensuring the future of Market Street keeps people moving downtown, quickly and safely.

Market is faster and safer since private vehicles were removed

Since Market Street went car-free in 2020, Muni is running 14% faster, and injury collisions have decreased by 40%. Get all the facts about how Market Street works, and why even just a few private vehicles could undermine the transit and safety progress made in the last 5 years.
